Wispr Flow alternative

Dictation without the word meter.

Wispr Flow is good at what it does, but its free plan stops at 2,000 words a week and every word goes through the cloud. Murmr runs on your own computer, so dictation is unlimited, free for life, and works with no internet at all.

The honest version

Murmr isn't the right choice for everyone, so here is where it wins and where it doesn't.

Where Murmr is better

You never count words. Dictation is free for life with no weekly cap, because it runs on your own machine rather than a paid cloud service. It keeps working on a plane or a patchy connection, and your voice never leaves your computer. If you want the extra writing tools, Pro is one payment of $29.99, not a monthly bill.

Where Wispr Flow is better

Wispr Flow has phone apps for iOS and Android, and Murmr is desktop only. It also offers team plans. If you dictate mostly on your phone, or your company buys tools by the seat, Wispr Flow fits that better.

What about Superwhisper?

Superwhisper also offers unlimited local dictation on its free plan, and it runs on phones as well as computers. The difference is price and focus: Superwhisper's paid plan is $8.49 a month or $249.99 for life, while Murmr Pro is $29.99 once, and Murmr's free version already includes the Style Picker, searchable dictation memory, and Obsidian-compatible notes.

What you get with Murmr Free

Unlimited dictation, a Style Picker that reshapes speech as Raw, Polished, Casual, Formal, Concise, or with emojis, searchable memory of everything you say, Obsidian-compatible notes, and export to .txt or .docx. No account meter, no trial clock.

What Pro adds

A personal dictionary for names and jargon, dictation straight into your notes, composing by voice, lookup anywhere on your desktop, summaries, media transcription and subtitles, text to speech, and Ask AI from any app. One payment, yours for life.
